Master's Programme in Global Politics and Communication

N.B. During the academic year 2020-2021 teaching will mainly be arranged as distance teaching.


This study guide and all instructions are aimed at GPC students. Some of the courses are open for GPC students only. For detailed information, see individual courses or contact the kruununhaka-student@helsinki.fi.

All courses require registration via WebOodi during the registration period.

Equivalence between curriculums

Students, who started their studies in the GPC degree programme before 1.8.2020, can choose whether to complete their studies according to the 2017-2020 curriculum or the new 2020-2023 curriculum. Teaching will be arranged according to the new curriculum 2020-2023, even if the students complete their degrees according to the 2017-2020 curriculum

MGC students
Students, who started their studies in the old Master's Programme in Media and Global Communication (MGC), can complete their studies according to the old degree requirements until 18th December 2020. DGT students
Students, who started their studies in the old Master's Programme in Democracy and Global Transformations (DGT), can complete their studies according to the old degree requirements until 18th December 2020. Students must apply for the registration of the following completed study modules immediately after the courses belonging to the modules are displayed in the Student Register as completed:

  1.     Advanced studies in the student’s own study track, 90 cr (one of the following):

Optional studies: Not to be compiled into a module. Exception: If students wish to include in their optional studies courses that comprise a study module in another degree programme or discipline, the student must apply for separate registration of this module.
