Description
Target group |
Master’s Programme in Atmospheric Sciences is responsible for the course.
Module where the course belongs to:
- ATM300 Advanced Studies in Atmospheric Sciences
Optional for:
- Study Track in Aerosol Physics
- Study Track in Remote Sensing
- Study Track in Meteorology
The course is available to students from other degree programmes. |
Timing |
The course is offered every other year (even years) in spring term (fourth teaching period). |
Learning outcomes |
The learning goal is to understand the basic principles of satellite remote sensing of the atmosphere. The student will learn how to interpret and utilise publicly available satellite atmospheric data. |
Contents |
The course will cover satellite-based remote sensing of aerosols, greenhouse gases, ozone and short-lived trace gases (air quality). We will give a short overview on atmospheric radiation and retrieval methods. Multiple satellite instruments and their measurement techniques will be introduced. The focus will be on practical applications such as satellite data interpretation, visualisation and validation, which will be practised during the course. Instead of a traditional exam, there will be a final project where satellite data will be utilised. |
