Description
Target group 

Students of all faculties, students with a JOO flexible study right, international students.

The course is suitable to those who have completed the short syllabus for French in Finnish upper secondary education or attained corresponding skills, but wish to retrain and strengthen their skills.

 
Learning outcomes 

Students who have completed the course will have
- recalled the central constructs of the French language
- increased their vocabulary with that of the course topics
- trained themselves in oral and written expression

 
Completion methods 

Self-learning course. In a self-learning course, students study independently under the supervision of a tutor and complete written and oral assignments agreed upon in advance. Study schedule will be agreed with the tutor. Aprox. 50 hours of work. 1-3 meetings with the tutor according to student's needs.

NB! Registration for self-learning courses is completed by contacting the tutor at the beginning of the relevant teaching period.

 
Prerequisites 

Initial level: CEFR A2 (pdf). Short syllabus for French in Finnish upper secondary education (5–6 courses) or corresponding skills.

If unsure of your skill level, please contact the course teacher or tutor during their office hours or the academic affairs office of the Language Centre before registration.

 
Contents 

Topics include studies, working and family life, and the French-speaking world.

Situations where French is used include describing students’ personal spheres, as well as past and future events.

Most important constructs:
- passé composé, past tense and past perfect
- future and conditional
- subjunctive
- personal and relative pronouns

 
Study materials and literature 

Study material will be agreed upon with the tutor at the beginning of the course.

 
Assessment practices and criteria 

Based on the learning outcomes. Written final examination, active independent work and completion of assignments included in the course.
