Description
Target group 

Students of all faculties, students in the flexible study rights scheme (JOO), international students.

The course is suitable for students who have had some French (e.g., 3–4 courses in upper secondary school) and wish to quickly review the basics. For more advanced students (who have completed, e.g., 6–8 courses in upper secondary school), a more suitable course would be the Refresher course in intermediate French (99110).

 
Learning outcomes 

After completing the course, students

  • Can manage in French in simple everyday situations both orally and in writing
  • Can understand clearly and slowly spoken French
  • Know how to use the main polite expressions
  • Are familiar with some of the basic elements of French culture and the French-speaking world
 
Completion methods 

Self-access course.: the oral and written assignments as agreed with him or her. The schedule of studies will be determined at the first meeting. Overall workload: ca. 50 hours

NB! To register for this self-access course, contact the French teacher tutor at the beginning of the period. Students are admitted to the course by order of registration.

 
Prerequisites 

Starting level CEFR A1 (pdf).

Language Center French for Beginners 1 or 2 or three years of studies in upper secondary school.

If you are unsure about your skills level before registering, contact the course teacher or teacher tutor during their office hours or Language Centre Academic Affairs.

 
Contents 

Structures: interrogatives, adjectives, numerals, pronouns; the present and future tenses, the passé composé

Language use situations: introductions, cafés, shopping, medical appointments, hotel visits, composing messages and giving directions.

To be announced at the beginning of the course.

 
Assessment practices and criteria 

Self-access course. Based on the aspects mentioned under the course objectives. A written final examination, active independent work, and completion of the individual course assignments.
