Target group 

Students of all faculties, students in the flexible study rights scheme (JOO), international students.

This course can be used, for example, to support beginners’ courses or to review pronunciation rules.

Learning outcomes 

After completing the course, students

•    Are familiar with the basics of French pronunciation, e.g., can recognise speech sounds and their equivalent in writing
•    Will have practised French intonation, stress and rhythm
•    Are better acquainted with special characteristics in French, e.g. word-linking rules

Completion methods 

Regular participation in the course (minimum attendance: 75%), 14 hours of contact teaching and 12 hours of independent study.


Starting level: basic comprehension of texts is recommended.


Students will acquaint themselves with French pronunciation rules, learn the French alphabet and accent marks, as well as practise stress and intonation. The course contains many oral exercises, such as listening comprehension exercises and drills, as well as dictation. Independently completed online assignments are also part of the course.
