Target group 

Students of all faculties, students in the flexible study rights scheme (JOO), international students

This course is intended for students who wish to strengthen their oral skills after learning the basics of German.

Learning outcomes 

After completing the course, students

  • Can understand slow, clear speech related to the course topics
  • Can communicate using simple spoken sentences in everyday language use situations
  • Know more about German-speaking countries and are more interculturally competent
Completion methods 

Teacher-instructed course with 26 hours of contact teaching and 30 hours of independent work

Minimum course attendance: 75%

German for beginners 1 and 2, or equivalent skills


The course focuses on activating oral language skills. Versatile exercises in pairs and small groups help students practise everyday language use (e.g., personal descriptions, errands and  travel).

The course also emphasises the significance of intercultural competence in ensuring smooth interaction.

Assessment practices and criteria 

Based on the aspects mentioned under the course objectives. Regular and active participation in classroom work. At the end of the course, there will be an oral final test.
