Description
Target group 

Students of the Master’s Programme in Translational medicine, compulsory in study track Neuroscience and Psychobiology. The course is open also to students in the Master’s Programme in Psychology and doctoral students in relevant fields.

Periods I and II, 2nd study year of Master’s studies

 
Learning outcomes 

The student will be able to understand and evaluate scientific articles, and will understand how to determine research questions, how to study these questions, and how to analyse statistically and report and discuss research results in the fields of cognitive neuroscience and psychobiology.

 
Completion methods 

Contact teaching in weekly 2 h seminars. Attendance in 80% of the seminars and the student’s own presentation in the seminars are required for completion.

Contents 

In each seminar, students present a brief summary of a timely journal article in the field of cognitive neuroscience or psychobiology chosen with the teachers.  The article will then be critically analysed and discussed.

Student activities: Presenting a summary of a scientific article, active participation in discussion on this article and the articles summarised by other participants

The teacher’s active engagement is documented in the assignments for each session given by the teachers and by the teacher’s presence and motivational instruction in each session.

 
Assessment practices and criteria 

Grading scale: Pass/Fail. Attendance in 80% of the seminars and the student’s presentation in the seminars are required for completion.

 
Relations to other study units 

The course cannot be substituted by previous studies.
