The second year after completing Microeconomics 1 and 2, and Macroeconomics 1 and 2

After the course, the student should

• Be able to solve and construct one person optimal search problems 
• Understand dynamic models of search and directed search in areas of labour economics and monetary economics, and understand how the set-up can be used to address questions ranging from marriage markets to the choice of trading mechanisms 
• Doctoral students should be able to actively do all the above.

The course consists of lectures (24–30 hours) and homework. The course is quite technical, but the atmosphere is relaxed if not outright informal. There is a written final exam or a home exam or homework or a combination of these depending on the number of participants.

Microeconomics 1 and 2, Macroeconomics 1 and 2

Knowledge of analysis and probability theory is certainly an advantage.

The course covers technical requirements, one-person optimal search theory, general equilibrium type search theory, directed search theory and applications to labour markets, monetary theory, and the problem of trading mechanisms.

All material related to the course is delivered through Moodle. It also contains a discussion forum where students can discuss issues related to the course with each other and the teacher.
